Shetter Sister's Patchwork

Last fall my mom bought this quilt at the estate sale relative.  The quilt was peiced by Mom's aunt Ada Shetter Yeager.  All the patches are different and many of them have labels pinned to them saying things like:  "Mother's apron" or "Eber's Shirt" or "Doris's Dress."  We treasure this hand stitched heirloom.

Then Aunt Betty Wadel told Mom about a quilt top she found when going through Uncle Mark's things (Mom's brother who died 3 years ago.)  Mom suggested she get Aunt Gladys to quilt it for her to give to Kim (Aunt  Betty's daughter who highly values historical things.)  Below is the end result.  This one was pieced by my grandmother, Emma Shetter Wadel, with the same pieces just put together in a different design.

What a sweet sister project!  They probably started saving scraps for each other and worked on their separate quilts little by little.  Aunt Ada managed to get hers finished.  She had 2 children.  My grandma, Emma, had 7.  Probably done in 1930's and 40's.
