Back to cold

When Petra saw the snow starting to fall last evening, she rushed out and cut hand fulls of daffodils.  Her bud vases here and there about the house are a pleasant touch on a cold and dismal day.

Two Sweet Old Ladies

My Mom and soul sister Holly Campbell.  Mom and Holly usually get a half hour together when Holly brings her granddaughter, Naomi here for cello lesson.
It's such a treasure to have Grandma living next door.   Last eve we discussed making the next grandkid comforter.  It gets me all excited to anticipate a sewing project!
(Doing double duty on computer:  I'm listening to a Brian Post webinar and pulling up some old photos.  This one is from 2007.)

Mercy Long

Mercy Long wrote an original story called "Mercy Watkins and the missing butter."  Charming story about a little pig who loves butter and toast but can't find the butter so she and her parents look in all sorts of funny places until at last they find the butter.  Excellent text and illustrations!  The highlight of my day was Mercy reading her book to me.  An additional delight was Mercy's dotted dress with dotted shoes to match!  I love this picture!

Moon

Austin, here's this moon I wrote about.  I'm sure you or Gloria would have gotten an amazing picture.  It was amazing in real life.  Petra took this from her window.

Overnight guests

Petra, Grantley, Sarah, Erin, Leah, Mike, Ann and Nick (missing),  Freinds of Jessica and James Clement from Catholic U. needed a place to stay over after the visitation Monday night.  Here we are ready to walk to the church for Judy's funeral on Tuesday this morning.  These young adults were completely sweet and the fellowship was just what I needed!

Go, Silent Friend

Go, Silent Friend

(tune, Londonderry Air)

Go, silent friend, your life has found its ending;
To dust returns your weary mortal frame,
God, who before your birth called you into being,
Now calls you hence, his accent still the same.
Go, silent friend, your life in Christ is buried;
For you he lived and died and rose again.
Close by his side your promised place is waiting
Where, fully known, you shall with God remain.

Go, silent friend, forgive us if we grieved you;
Safe now in heaven, kindly say our name.
Your life touched us, that is why we mourn you;
Our lives without you cannot be the same
Go, silent friend, we do not grudge your glory;
Sing, sing with joy deep praises to your Lord.
You, who believed that Christ
Would come back for you,
Now celebrate that Jesus keeps his word.

From the Vigil for Judy

"The cords of friendship do not come untwined in death."

Romans 8: 38For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
 39Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Trying to comprehend

On March 17 our dear friend Judy Clement was in a car accident and died sometime later in York hospital.  It seems impossible!  Someone so full of life...  An amazing woman of faith and personal energy. These are the only pictures I have of many precious times together.

Emily Dickenson

Will there really be a morning?
Is there such a thing as day?
Could I see it from the mountains
If I were as tall as they?

Has it feet like water-lilies?
Has it feathers like a bird?
Is it brought from famous countries
Of which I have never heard?

Oh, some scholar! Oh, some sailor!
Oh, some wise man from the skies!
Please to tell a little pilgrim
Where the place called morning lies!

Deanna, Andrea and Petra

Just got Ali's camera tonight at church.  Austin to Taylor to Andrew to me.  Had to try it out and what a nice picture!  Thanks, Ali!  I've been watching you on the EMU website!

Ah the live of a kept cat!

A peaceful moment for Golden Paws.  You notice a little critter in the top left?  That's my little valentine with grass for hair.  It's really sweet but G. P. keeps on eating off the hair.  Decided to relocate my valentine.  (75% off valentine stuff at CVS)

Performathon Recital 2011

Petra plays Min 2, Bach
Petra plays her Book 2 recital
Grantley accompanies Mom on La Cinquantaine
Grantey plays Arioso, Bach and Tarantella, Squire.
These are the two pieces he will play at the Merit Scholarship Audition, April 2.
We needed something light to end with.  Thursday morning I thought of a fun song but when I started to sing it to Petra and Grantley, I suddenly realized that they knew nothing of it so I stopped mid measure and put it on the program as a surprise for them as well as the audience.  Anna, Austin and Gloria, do you know about the song Dad wrote for me my first year teaching?
Susan, who works for Linden mentioned to me that she heard somewhere that Linden sings.
So we got this impromptu quartet together to satisfy Susan's curiosity.
We sang "One is the Body" because of the lovely harmony.
The faithful old pink donation box on a Bolivian cloth sent to us by Gloria.
Thanks to all who contributed!

Thrusday Morning Breakfast

Sean and Pam came for breakfast at 7:00 in the morning.  Didn't think of taking a pic until after Sean left.  I put on the hat to match Pam and to cover my bad hair.  The start of a crazy day!

Snow on Monday Morning

Even though pictures never quite capture the real thing you have to try.  Outside before sunrise.  Stillness.

Grantley and Giant Sock Monkey

This picture is for Bethany who made darling little sock monkeys for her two for Christmas.  I made this years ago when Grantley was about the size of this monkey.

Glitch

I can't seem to get my picture to come over here to my blog.  So I'll give you my new favorite quote.

March Forth on March 4th

Several years ago, I read in a Family Fun Magazine about a family who always celebrated March 4th - the only date which is also a command.  As a young adult, the mom in the story had received her letter of acceptance into nursing school on March 4th and she took it as her commission into the new chapter of her life.  We don't have any particular tradition but I decided to bring out this high tech household appliance.  It's a 15 minute sand timer.  How would you use a 15 min. timer?  My intentions mostly had to do with completing tasks but the note that came with the timer was all about taking a 15 minute break.  Good Idea.  Later some friends came for tea and because of this visual timer I was able to remain seated for 15 min at the table with my friends Pam and Laura.  Thanks for your help too, Laura.

Lunch at the Waynesburger

We do enjoy an occasion together - Mom and her 3 girls!  Shaliqua and Petra were photographers.  Should have captured them too.

The Ugliest Thing You've Ever Seen!

This is Grantley in his ghillie suit.  He has been working on this thing for the past  couple of months and finished it this week in time to take to Cove for Operation Cooperation.  The main point is camouflage.  So I hope you have trouble seeing him in these pictures.
